Check out our recent publication, where we identified a key regulatory DNA element that controls expression of the disease-associated gene MMP9 in human placental cells. By dissecting this element at high resolution, using reporter assays and CRISPR-Cas9, we uncovered both activating and repressive regions within a 1kb regulatory element, revealing unexpected complexity in how MMP9 expression is controlled. Congrats to all of the authors who put in a lot of hard work on this manuscript!
